There are certain possible variations of Poker Patience:
1. Card Reserve. Using a card reserve (usually, of up to 5 cards), where you can transfer those cards that you cannot find a suitable spot for at the moment.
If you play Poker Patience without a card reserve, you will have to find a permanent place for each card you turn over right away, whether it is a well-suited spot, or not.
2. Scoring Diagonal Lines. The diagonal lines running from corner to corner are used as additional lines to be scored.
3. The deck can be split in half prior to building the Poker Square. This way two cards will be visible at all times, which makes the gameplay easier and more strategy-oriented.
